The Westerville Naturals are apart of the Central Ohio Athletic Association (C.O.A.A). The C.O.A.A's mission is to augment the physical and mental development of children through learning and playing youth sports. We seek to reinforce the ideals of honesty, loyalty, courage, respect, good citizenship, and sportsmanship in each player.
As it should be, our #1 focus is on the player. All of the players. From a young age they will be taught how to play baseball the right way, have the opportunity to learn how to pitch, and play both infield and outfield positions. How much better they get largerly depends on their work away from the field sharpening their skills at the sport they love. We understand that this approach at times may sacrafice a few wins but we and our parents should be OK with this for the greater good of their players and the team.
Building on Westerville and Central Ohio as a foudation for great baseball we want our players to leave their mark both on and off the field. They should be proud of the teams they play for and prepared to give back to the communities that they live in.
”We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill
We know we are way more likely to raise great young men than future MLB players. How they treat others on and off of the field is a critcal piece of what we expect out of our players. We have high standards of class and hustle that should always be displayed and when someone says you played like a Natural today it comes with the highest honor.
"The Westerville Naturals are an organization that focuses on the whole development of the player on and off the field. They work hard to develop skills, mindsets, and values that will benefit the athletes throughout their entire lives. The Naturals are a great travel opportunity for Westerville and surrounding area players."
Having been involved with travel baseball for well over 14 years now, Kristi and I have seen the best and worst in the people of travel ball. We were lucky enough to have a son who loved the game of baseball and had the talent to play on a travel team. Some of the greatest memories we have with B-Rock are on the baseball field. As a parent, you of course want a coach that will teach and train your son to be a valuable player on the field, that is honestly the easiest part of being a coach. The more important thing a parent should want from a coach is someone to teach their son how to be a good person. How to have a strong, positive character whether you win or lose the game. Many of these players will stop playing baseball in their late teens and what you hope remains from that coaching is helping them to be a better friend, brother, husband and some day, father. We lost our baseball player, B-Rock, at the age of 14 and our perspective on the game changed forever. For us, the wins and losses moved way down on the list of importance and the life lessons and friendships moved to the top of our list. Kristi and I have personally known Mike Popadak and Jon Couser for several years now and we’ve seen them both on and off the baseball field. The culture created by these men within the Westerville Naturals baseball organization is exactly the culture we would have looked for when considering a team for B-Rock. Every time Kristi and I had the good fortune of running into their teams and families- smiles, hugs, and good, competitive baseball were prevalent. Baseball is a family experience that can take up a significant portion of your summer. What the Westerville Naturals are instilling in your player with their Purpose and the “Naturals in your Neighborhood” initiative is ultimately what’s most important. Their ability to play the game of baseball is temporary, but their character traits learned from the greatest game on this earth will follow them forever. Don’t ever forget that “every day is a gift”!
My family has been connected with the Westerville Naturals organization since 2013. The coaches were always great to work with and showed great knowledge and compassion for all their players. As a parent I could not be happier with the development of my son as a player as well as a young man. They instilled more values than just baseball skills each and every time they were together. A top notch organization in Central Ohio. They covered everything just like a high school program from local service projects to field maintenance to developing players on the field while also keeping costs down for the families. As a high school coach, I could not be happier with all of my high school players that have been part of this organization. I currently have about 8-10 players in my own program that have been developed by the Westerville Naturals and their coaches.
July typically involves a month off from our travel schedule with tryouts taking place in the middle of the month. This is where we establish our teams for the upcoming spring and summer season.
We strongly encourage our athletes to play multiple sports and understand there will be conflicts. A light fall ball schedule is a great opportunity to focus on development opportunities for our teams and players as we welcome new teammates.
Resting the players arm is important and we take a long break over the winter from all baseball activates. We stay connected with our players though team and organization wide character opportunities presented to them as a chance to give back to their communities.
Indoor practice begins around January with a focus on conditioning and building the swing they will take to the field in the Spring. 8 weeks of throwing eventually begins to build the players arm back up to be ready to deal with a busy travel schedule of games and practice.
This is the busiest time of the year for our teams. A full schedule of practice, league games, and tournaments begin and you can expect 4-5 nights of baseball during this time.
Have a question about our organization? Send us a message, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
